Riverhead cops on the hunt for Sports Authority thief

Riverhead Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man they say stole clothing from a Riverhead store last month.

At about noon on Feb. 22, an unknown man quickly took several North Face-brand jackets from a clothing rack at the Sports Authority on Route 58 and fled the store without paying, according a police statement.

No estimated value of the jackets was provided by police.

The man was described as black and with dark, cropped hair. He was wearing a black jacket and red sweatpants in a surveillance photo of the incident released by police. He was last seen fleeing the scene in a red Chevrolet Impala that was waiting outside the store.
