Police search for car chase suspect

Cops were searching for a suspect who led three police agencies on a car chase across Riverhead and Southampton Tuesday before the suspect ditched the vehicle and fled on foot, police said.

The pursuit started in Southampton Town’s police’s jurisdiction, with State Police assisting about 11 a.m., officials said.

The suspect then crossed into Riverhead Town where Riverhead police joined the chase. The suspect eventually fled his vehicle on foot in the Riverhead jurisdiction, Riverhead police said.

Southampton police have the suspect’s vehicle and police are searching the area for the fleeing suspect, police said.

Helicopters were also spotted circling the area about noon Tuesday.

Additional details on the suspect and the exact location of the pursuit were not immediately available. Reached about 1:45 p.m., Southampton Town police declined to comment on whether or not an arrest had been made, citing an “ongoing investigation.”
