Downtown Riverhead deli expanding into next storefront

BARBARAELLEN KOCH | The Village Delicatessen on East Main Street.

There will be one less vacant storefront in downtown Riverhead.

Nearly six months after East Main Street boutique OMG! How Cute closed its doors, its neighbors are moving in.

The Village Delicatessen at 318 East Main St., across from the L.I. Aquarium and Convention Center, is expanding into the former speciality gift shop’s property.

Over the last month, workers have been preparing to knock down the wall between the deli and the vacant storefront to make room for seating, said deli owner Gōonzalo Carrera.

“It’s too small here,” Mr. Carrera said. “I don’t have the room [I need].”

The new addition will include tables and seating space for customers who want to sit down to eat the Spanish bakery’s dishes. The finished storefront will be double the size of the current deli.

Mr. Carrera expects the renovations to be completed sometime next month.
