The Riverhead Fire Department swore in new chief officers at their board of commissioners meeting Tuesday night.

Anthony White, who had previously served as the department’s first assistant chief, was sworn in as Fire Chief by chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners Dennis Hamill.

Mr. White replaced the previous chief, Nick Luparella, who had served as chief since 2010.

Mr. White thanked the members of the department for their support and he said he was looking forward to working with the department and the board of commissioners during his term.

Mr. Luparella, who served as chief during the two busiest years in the fire department’s history, was honored by the department for his service.

“I’d like to thank the board and the members of the Riverhead Fire Department for giving me the opportunity to represent this department as chief for the past two years,” Mr. Luparella said.

Joseph Raynor was also sworn in as the department’s first assistant chief, Kevin Brooks was sworn in as second assistant chief and Peter Jackman was sworn in as third assistant chief.

The newest chiefs were nominated during an election held on April 5. They will serve one-year terms.
