Albina Wowak of Jamesport died May 5 at Riverhead Care Center. She was 92.
She was born Jan. 25, 1920, in East Marion to Adam and Jesse Januick. She married Joseph Wowak in 1940 at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue, and was a homemaker for most of her adult life.
Ms. Wowak volunteered for many years as a “pink lady” at Peconic Bay Medical Center, and was a member of St. Isidore Altar Rosary Society, both in Riverhead.
She loved to cook and was a devoted, loving grandmother
Predeceased by her husband in 2003, and her son Robert in 2007, she is survived by her daughter Maryann Heilbrunn and son-in law John Heilbrunn of Wading River, her brother Albin Januick of New Suffolk, and two granddaughters, Jayna Cathey and Janel Heilbrunn.
The family will receive visitors Monday, May 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday, May 8, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead, followed by interment at the church cemetery.
