PHOTOS: Car strikes Mattituck crossing gate, flips

A woman was hospitalized Thursday morning after she crashed into a railroad crossing gate and flipped her car in Mattituck, police said.

The victim was driving a white Ford Tempo on Factory Avenue about 9:40 a.m., when she hit the railroad crossing, Southold Town police at the scene said. The woman, who was not identified by police, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center to be treated.

The severity of her injuries is unknown at this time. Police said there were no passengers in the car, and no other people were involved in the accident.

Mattituck Fire Police closed off Factory Avenue between Main Road and Walnut Avenue while they towed the wrecked car from the scene.
