Blog Recap: SWR baseball wins 6-0 to force decisive game Wednesday

With his team facing elimination, Shoreham-Wading River senior Mike O’Reilly delivered one of his best pitching performances of the season, throwing a complete game shutout in a 6-0 victory over Bayport-Blue Point Tuesday afternoon.

The win forces a decisive game Wednesday back at Shoreham for the Class A county title.

O’Reilly struck out 12 and also went 2-for-4 at the plate. He blew the game open with a three-run double to left-center in the seventh inning. Senior Pat Steinbrecher hit a two-out double earlier in the inning that made it 3-0.

The Wildcats jumped ahead early on a solo home run to left by Dan Luppens. They scored again in the fifth when pinch hitter Jack Massa laid down a bunt on a suicide squeeze.

O’Reilly gave up three hits and walked three.

The Wildcats turned a 4-6-3 double play to end the game. Sophomore Jack Piekos took the loss for Bayport. The Phantoms elected not to throw their ace, Mike Farley, who was 2-0 against Shoreham this season. He will pitch Wednesday.
