Riverhead High School basketball star Jalyn Brown, who racked up more than 1,000 career points and helped lead the girls team to a Long Island championship this year, now has another award under her belt: perfect attendance for her entire school career.

Ms. Brown, who never missed a day of school for 13 years, was among more than 60 students, the largest group ever, who achieved perfect attendance at Riverhead High School this school year.

“This is an amazing feat,” said Riverhead High School principal David Wicks. “We’re very proud of all the students who achieved this award this school year — and especially proud of Jalyn, who achieved 13 years of consecutive perfect attendance. That’s incredible.”

Ms. Brown said she is “not really a morning person,” and she credited her parents with helping her get up on time.

She will attend C.W. Post University next year on a basketball scholarship and now has her sights set on another record.

“I’d like to achieve perfect attendance at college as well,” Ms. Brown said.
