Acclaimed Aquebogue trumpet player performing free local concert

A free outdoor concert with trumpet player Alex Sipiagin is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Peconic Bay Winery in Cutchogue.

This will be the North Fork horn player’s only Long Island performance this year, as he continues his international tour through the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Taiwan and Japan.

He will play the event with his quintet, which includes musicians Seamus Blake, Dave Kikoski, Nate Smith and Boris Kozlov.

Mr. Sipiagin emigrated from Russia to the United States in 1991 and began his career as a trumpet player shortly afterward, playing with Gil Evans Band and George Gruntz Concert Jazz band. With 12 albums under his belt, the Aquebogue resident has played with musicians such as Dave Holland, Minus Big Band, Michael Brecker and Mulgrew Miller.

Wine, beer, fresh oysters and cheese plates will be available for purchase at the event, though attendees may bring a small amount of food for a $5 clean up charge, which will be waived by any food purchase.

Reservations are recommended and tickets can be obtained by emailing [email protected] or calling 734-7361.
