Margaret Szczepanik

Margaret Szczepanik of Riverhead died June 9 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. She was 93.

She was born Nov. 20, 1918, in Perth Amboy, N.J., to John and Pauline (Gasir) Trzeciakowski.

Ms. Szczepanik worked as a cottage monitor at Little Flower Children and Family Services in Wading River until her retirement in 1981. She was co-president of the resident council at Westhampton Care Center, where she had lived for four years.

She enjoyed activities at the Riverhead Senior Center, loved to play cards and bingo and was good at telling jokes, according to family members.

Predeceased by her husband, Edwin, in 2001, she is survived by her son, Dr. Edwin Szczepanik of Orlando, Fla.; her daughter, Bernice Phillips of Mattituck; her sister, Elizabeth Bolanowski of California; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, June 14, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will be offered Friday, June 15, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery.
