Trash bin corrals set for Main Street businesses

Riverhead Town has worked out agreements with several downtown businesses to establish two centralized dumpster corrals that will serve all of them. The move would enable individual businesses to get the dumpsters off their property and into a shared, fenced-in dumpster enclosure on land owned by the town.

Participating businesses on the north side of East Main Street are the Suffolk Community College Culinary school, Barth’s Pharmacy, Haiku and Blue Agave Mexican Grill.

On the south side, participating businesses include Cody’s BBQ and Grill, Robert James Salon and Spa, Athens Grill, Riverhead Vacuum and Sewing Center, Tweeds Restaurant and the Dark Horse Restaurant.

Town officials and downtown merchants have discussed such an arrangement previously but had never been able to reach an agreement.

The set-up would provide participating businesses with magnetic swipe card to access the bin and track usage, officials have said.
