Cops: Man fell asleep at the wheel, crashed into tree

A car crashed into a tree  on the sidewalk in front of Cliff’s Rendezvous restaurant on East Main Street in downtown Riverhead Sunday at about 6:30 a.m., Riverhead Town Police said.

The driver of the car, who was not charged with anything, fell asleep at the wheel, police said.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance was called to the scene but information on the driver’s condition was not immediately available, according to police.
