Preview: Riverhead school board member to be sworn in
The Riverhead school board is expected to swear in new board member Tom Carson and elect a new president and vice president for the 2012-13 school year at its reorganizational meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday at Riverhead High School.
Mr. Carson, a Riverhead resident who owns the Farm Country Kitchen on West Main Street in Riverhead, ran unopposed with Susan Koukounas for the board’s two open seats in this year’s election.
Ms. Koukounas of Aquebogue, a math instructor at Suffolk County Community College, got the most votes in May’s election and was sworn in to fill Willie Hsiang’s vacant seat the night the votes were tallied.
Mr. Carson will take over longtime board member Timothy Griffing’s seat.
Mr. Griffing decided not to run for reelection this year to give more attention to his deli businesses.
The board will also make position appointments and approve bonding and banking deposits for the coming school year.
Superintendent Nancy Carney is also expected to provide an update on construction efforts for the $78.3 million capital improvements school bond Riverhead voters passed in October.
