S’hampton cops: Knicks’ star Kidd charged with DWI after crash

Recently signed New York Knicks point guard Jason Kidd was arrested early Saturday on DWI charges after smacking his Cadillac Escalade into a telephone pole and veering off into woods in Water Mill, Southampton Town police said.

Cops said the crash happened just before 2 a.m. near Cobb Road and Little Cobb Road, where Mr. Kidd, 39 of Dallas, Texas, was found to be intoxicated, police said. He was transported to Southampton Hospital for minor injuries.

The accident happened just less than a mile from where Mr. Kidd recently purchased a home on Flying Point Road in Water Mill, sources said.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and released without bail.

Mr. Kidd, an 18-year NBA veteran and 10-time All Star who spent seven seasons with the New Jersey Nets, signed with the Knicks July 5.
