Cops: Main Street crash sends two people to hospital

PAUL SQUIRE PHOTO | A minor crash in Riverhead sent two people to the hospital Monday afternoon.

Two people were hospitalized as a precaution after two cars collided in downtown Riverhead Monday afternoon.

A car was making a left turn onto Roanoke when it struck a Ford F-150 traveling westbound on East Main Street in front of the Star Confectionery about 12:45 p.m., police said.

According to an officer at the scene, two people were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center “to get checked out.” The passengers in the F-150 said they were unharmed in the accident.

Corey Mendelman, who was a passenger in the truck, said they “had the green light” when the woman cut across traffic to turn northbound, adding the two drivers were yelling at each other after the crash.

Police briefly closed off Roanoke Avenue while the accident was cleaned up.
