As the racing season at Riverhead begins to hit the final stretch, John Beatty Jr. of Merrick finds himself in the mix for one of the top spots in the modified standings. Beatty is currently fifth with 288 points this season, as he tries to close ground on leader Shawn Solomito, who has 374.
Beatty has raced three years at Riverhead Raceway, beginning with the legends in 2009. His favorite racing memory was his first win in 2011. He said his favorite part about racing at Riverhead is hanging with all the guys and friends.
His father John Beatty has been the biggest supporter in his career, he said.
