Sports Briefs: Wading River to host sprint triathlon Saturday
TRIATHLON: New race in Wading River What is being billed as Long Island’s newest sprint triathlon, the Deep Pond Triathlon, will be held Saturday at the Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River. The first-time event will have events for running, biking and swimming for athletes ages 7 and up. The adult race will start at 6:30 a.m. with a 750-meter swim in Deep Pond followed by a 13-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run. GOLF: Golfing for Porters The eighth annual Gridiron Golf Classic will be held on Aug. 28 at Island’s End Golf & Country Club in Greenport, with a shotgun start scheduled for 1 p.m. The fee is $175 per golfer.
