Meeting on Manorville ambulance issue was postponed

Councilman John Dunleavy

Riverhead Councilman John Dunleavy said this week that an Aug. 20 meeting he had scheduled with Manorville Community Ambulance representatives was postponed at the request of the Manoville officials, and that it has yet to be rescheduled.

Mr. Dunleavy wants to discuss the possibility that the Manorville Community Ambulance take over a small area of Riverhead Town that’s actually much closer to the Manorville ambulance barn.

The suggestion came from Clare Bennett, who lives on Oakwood Drive in the Riverhead Town portion of Manorville. Ms. Bennett said that on three different occasions, it took the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps members about 40 minutes to get to her house in an emergency. She also said town police told her the E-911 system mistakenly sent the ambulance to Oakwood Drive in Calverton on two of those occasions.
