Another home invasion was reported in Flanders last week

GOOGLE MAPS | Two home invasions occurred recently in Flanders, police said. The locations of the incidents are shown as blue dots above.

A Flanders man told police he walked upstairs in his Maple Avenue home just after midnight last Wednesday and found an unknown man standing in the hallway with a kitchen knife asking him where his money was, according to police.

The occupant of the home said he ran out the back of his house to tell his neighbors to call police.

The suspect had escaped by the time officers arrived, police said. A Riverhead Town police K-9 also searched the site and didn’t find the suspect, police said.

An iPod valued at $300 was reported stolen, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 5-foot-8 inches to 5-foot-10 inches tall and about 185 pounds. He had short hair, a thin beard, and a “stocky belly that was hanging out,” police said. He was was wearing a white tank-top shirt, and light denim shorts.

The incident is similar to an Aug. 21 incident in which a resident of Point Road in Flanders resident reported that a man walked into his home and demanded money. It is uncertain if the two cases are related.
