Cops: Riverside man had handgun, crack pipe in stolen car

A convicted felon from Riverside was arrested Friday morning on gun and drug charges while driving high in a stolen car with a Riverhead woman in West Babylon, Suffolk County police said.

Muhammad Fulani, 45, and his passenger, Kari Reid, 31, were spotted speeding in a stolen 2010 Chevy Avalanche near the intersection of Belmont and Amsterdam avenues about 8 a.m., officials said.

Police stopped the car and Mr. Fulani, who has previously been convicted on a weapon possession charge, was found to have a loaded .25-caliber handgun and a pipe with crack residue, police said.

Ms. Reid was also found with a glass pipe containing crack residue in her possession, officials said.

Mr. Fulani was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a loaded firearm, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon for having a previous weapon possession charge conviction, first-degree operation of a motor vehicle impaired by drugs, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and various traffic violations, police said.

Ms. Reid was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, officials said.

Both suspects were charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal possession of stolen property for riding in the stolen car, police said.

Mr. Fulani and Ms. Reid weren’t arrested for stealing the car, which officials said was reported stolen to Southampton Town police.

Southampton Town police said no arrests have been made in connection with the stolen car and the investigation is continuing.
