Three Riverhead men have been arrested on burglary charges in connection to a foiled break-in at the old Riverboat Diner building in Riverside, Southampton Town police said.

Southampton cops got called to the 20 Riverleigh Avenue property about 6:40 p.m. Saturday for a reported burglary, police said.

There — in addition to a strong smell of natural gas coming from the building — police located and apprehended two suspicious men who had been observed leaving the building’s rear carrying scrap metal and pipes, officals said.

About that same time, Riverhead firefighters, Southampton Town fire marshals and National Grid workers responded to shut down a broken gas line that had been damaged in the building during the burglary, police said.

Police later arrested Angel Anibal Camey Uyu, 24, and Victor Manuel Sicajau Tepeu, 39, on felony third-degree burglary charges. Both men were being held at the Suffolk County Correction Center in Riverside until further notice.

A third person, Augustin Cosajai, 40, was charged with criminal trespassing, a misdemeanor, and was being held on $200 bail.

Police were not immediately available to say which two men were seen leaving the building, or how police were alerted to the incident.
