Nearly $1,700 worth of souvenirs and other merchandise were stolen from a locked souvenir booth at Riverhead Raceway sometime between Sept. 2 and last Sunday, Riverhead Town police said.

A man who works at the stand said he arrived at the track to find a door to the stand had been removed from its hinges. An unknown person or group of people removed two pins in the door hinges to take the door off, according to a police report.

Inside, 64 Matchbox cars, replica NASCAR models, bandanas, raceway hats and shirts worth about $1,668 were missing, the report reads.

Police are investigating the incident.
