Riverhead NJROTC Cadet Harold Hubbard of Jamesport has been selected for the prestigious Navy ISR Scholarship.

The $180,000 scholarship applies to the college of Harold’s choice.

The news was delivered by district Commander John Skarin Tuesday morning.

ISR stands for “Immediate Scholarship Reservation.” Harold was one of just six students in the Riverhead NJROTC’s area district — which includes Northern New Jersey, New York City, parts of Westchester and Long Island — to be chosen for this scholarship.

In addition to the scholarship award, Harold and Cadet Nicholas Deschamps attended the highly selective General Tommy Franks Four Star Leadership Academy for a week in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Harold also attended a week-long Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) seminar at Embry Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Fla., a trip that was fully funded by the Navy. This all came after he was chosen as the boys’ state representative from Riverhead High School and spent a week in June at SUNY Morrisville. This event was sponsored by the Riverhead American Legion.

He plans to study aeronautical engineering in college and hopes to become a pilot.
