Photos: Portion of Main Road closed Sunday after car crashed into utility pole

CLIFF BALDWIN PHOTOS | Police said a portion of Main Road in Aquebogue will remain closed this afternoon after a car struck a utility pole.

A section of Main Road in Aquebogue is expected to be closed until 5 p.m. today after a car crashed into a utility pole near Paumanok Vineyards early Sunday morning, Riverhead Town police said.

The road is closed between Tuthills and Church lanes and traffic is being redirected onto Sound Avenue until LIPA removes loose wiring scattered along the road, police said.

The crash occurred at about 4:30 a.m., according to a witness who told The News-Review an eastbound driver swerved into the westbound lane in order to avoid hitting a deer.

Police said no injuries were reported and no arrests have been made. No other details about the incident were immediately available.
