College fund set up for fatal crash victim’s two young sons
The family of a Reeves Park man who died in a car accident last month have established a scholarship fund for his two young sons.
John Scorzelli Jr., who worked two jobs as a physicians assistant, was killed when the 2006 Mazda sedan he was driving collided with a 2005 KIA SUV just east of Horton Avenue after midnight on Sept. 29, Riverhead police said.
He later died at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead.
The fund, called the Scorzelli Children Education Fund, will benefit Mr. Scorzelli’s two boys, Honor, 8, and Odin, 9.
Mr. Scorzelli’s wife and two sons described him as a loving father who loved to spend time at the beach with his family. He also enjoyed sports, and passed on his love of lacrosse to Honor, who plays “attacking and defense” on a local team.
“My dad really liked lacrosse so I did that,” Honor said in the days following the fatal crash.
The family has asked that anyone who wants to learn more about the fund email for additional information.
