Lettie H. Downs

Lettie H. Downs of Aquebogue died Sept. 26 at Westhampton Care Center. She was 98 years old.

Born in Westhampton to Philip and Clara Haberman, she graduated from Riverhead High School and Brown’s Business School. She married Harold. W. Downs of Aquebogue in 1940 and worked at Riverhead Savings Bank for 37 years until her retirement.

She was a member of Riverhead Homemakers for 66 years and also belonged to Old Steeple Community Church in Aquebogue, the Rebekah Lodge and other local organizations.

Predeceased by her husband and her sisters, Myrtle Downs and Eleanor Haberman, Ms. Downs is survived by her brother, Walter Haberman of Riverhead, many nieces and a nephew.

Rebekah Lodge held a service and the family received friends Sept. 30 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead, where the Rev. Joan Finck conducted funeral services Oct. 1. Interment was at Aquebogue Cemetery.
