Former Riverhead High Hansen Award winner Miguel Maysonet tallied 149 yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns as Stony Brook University football upended Virginia Military Institute 45-7 Saturday night at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

Maysonet, who was named to the watch list for the Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision, ran for scores of 16, 2 and 1 yards.

Stony Brook is now 9-1, with the team’s only loss coming in a game against Syracuse University in which the Seawolves led 17-14 at halftime.

From Stony Brook’s media room:

• Maysonet’s second TD run was the 48th touchdown of his Stony Brook career, breaking the Big South mark of 47, set by Coastal Carolina’s Aundres Perkins (2003-06).

He broke his own school and Big South single-season record of 1,633 rushing yards in a season with the 149 yards. Maysonet, who entered Saturday with 1,502 yards, has 1,651 this season.  He also is the only player in conference history with six games of three rushing scores.

• Next Saturday’s game at Liberty is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.  The game will be televised live on MASN, ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
