Elsie Lappe, a longtime Southold resident, went to be with the Lord Nov. 15 while at home surrounded by the love of her family at her side.
She was born in Jamaica, Queens, on Dec. 30, 1924, to Hanna and Coustar Louis Olson. Elsie married Frederick G. Lappe on Feb. 22, 1948.
Her life’s devotion was to the Lord, her husband, her five children and the family farm on South Harbor Road in Southold. She spent many an hour cooking and preserving fruits and vegetables for the family to enjoy. She was a wonderful cook and baker.
She was a devoted member of East Marion Community Church. Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed by all who knew her kind and compassionate ways.
Her loving husband, Frederick, predeceased her in February 2004. She is survived by her five children, Christopher (Theresa) and Steven, both of Southold, Susan Stradling (Frederick) of Amawalk, N.Y., Paul (Roberta) of Greenfield, Ind., and Frederick G. Lappe Jr. (Jennifer) of Calverton.
Elsie was blessed with 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was actively involved in their lives.
Funeral services were held at East Marion Community Church. Interment followed at Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes.
In lieu of flowers, donations to World Vision (Acct. No. 1118-9388) or East End Hospice would be appreciated.
