Woman injured in West Main Street rollover
A driver was hospitalized Tuesday after drifting off a Riverhead road and flipping over after striking a utility pole, Riverhead Town police said.
The woman was driving a maroon Buick Century sedan westbound on West Main Street when she crashed on the north side of the road about noon, a police officer at the scene said.
She was the only occupant in the car, he added.
The car flipped over and the woman was trapped inside, authorities said. A Riverhead Fire Department heavy rescue unit was called to the scene, but Riverhead police officers were able to break the car’s glass and pull the woman out, police said.
The cause of the accident has not been determined, police said.
The woman was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment. Authorities are not yet aware of the extent of her injuries and did not identify the victim.
