Riverhead High School student athletes win Suffolk Zone awards

Riverhead High School seniors Megan Weiss and Brian Funfgeld were both honored with New York Suffolk Zone Awards during a dinner last Wednesday.

The awards are given out by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance to honor student athletes who excel as leaders both on the field and in academics.

Megan has a weighted GPA of 98.69 and is on the Principal’s Honor Roll as well as a member of the National Honor Society.

She is a member of the varsity soccer and softball teams and the Riverhead Key and WISE clubs.

She is planning to study pharmacology in college.

Brian is a member of the varsity football, track & field, and baseball teams and earned a weighted GPA of 98.58.

He has won an AP Scholar award for his performance on AP exams and is a member of the Foreign Language Honor Society.

Brian plans to study bio-medical engineering upon entering college.
