Russell L. Silva

Russell L. Silva, formerly of Aquebogue, died Nov. 24 at his home in Eustis, Fla. He was 88 years old.

He served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees during World War II. He later joined the U.S. Air Force to serve in Korea and served with the 52nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron in the Vietnam conflict.

After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Silva was employed as a court officer with the Suffolk County courts, where he remained until his retirement in 1986. He was the Master of the Riverhead Masonic Lodge and later joined the Shriners. He was also a longtime member of the Loyal Order of Moose, where he served as commodore of the yacht club. Mr. Silva had his private pilot license, owned his own plane and was a member of a flight group in Cape Coral, Fla.

He is survived by his children, Russell Jr., of Plantation, Fla., and Lynn Smith of Riverhead; and four granddaughters.

Funeral services with U.S. military honors will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
