Dana Fessenden Davis Sr.

Longtime Aquebogue resident Dana Fessenden Davis Sr. (Dave), age 78, passed away of pneumonia at Peconic Bay Medical Center on Dec. 28, 2012. 

He was born Jan. 28, 1934, in Gloucester, Mass., the son of the late Theodore Howard and Catherine Jean (Marcuson) Davis.

Mr. Davis enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and was stationed at Westhampton Beach Air Force Base, Long Island, N.Y. While stationed there he met Lucy Seebeck, who became his loving wife of 56 years. 

After serving in the Air Force, he was employed by Grumman Aircraft, Calverton, N.Y., from 1956 to 1974. He then joined the 106th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service at Gabreski Airport, Westhampton Beach, N.Y. He served for 24 years, including 20 with the Air National Guard. He was involved in the Perfect Storm rescue that took place off the coast of his hometown, Gloucester, Mass. In 1993 he served on active duty in Southern Asia for the purpose of Desert Storm, Southern Watch. He received many citations, awards and medals during his 24 years of meritorious military service.

His greatest joy was being with family and friends. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, swimming and skiing. He also enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Reading and card playing filled his retirement years.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lucy Seebeck Davis of Aquebogue, N.Y.; his sons, Dana F. Davis Jr. and wife, Kelly Penny Davis, of Manorville, N.Y., and Theodore H. Davis of Moriches, N.Y.; his daughter, Karen Adine Halpin and husband, Patrick Halpin, of Burnsville, N.C.; his brother Douglas Davis of Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Amanda Sahl Nicholson and husband, Jason Nicholson, of Jonesborough, Tenn., Danielle Davis of Pennsylvania, Dana F. Davis III and wife, Rosanna, of Center Moriches, N.Y., Heather Sahl Laurie and husband, Robert Laurie, of Marion, N.C., Leroy (LJ) Bishop and wife, Megan Bishop, of Burnsville, N.C., and Meghan Davis of Aquebogue, N.Y.; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Davis was predeceased by his mother, father and brothers Robert C. Davis and Howard T. Davis of Massachusetts.

Visiting hours took place Jan. 2 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Interment was at Riverhead Cemetery, Riverhead, N.Y.
