K9, helicopter search after home intrusion

A Riverside man was lying down on his bed watching television one afternoon last month when he heard glass break and an unknown man entered his house, Southampton Town police reported this week.

The intruder then rushed into his room, pushed him back down on the bed and stole his wallet, which contained a debit card and $70 cash, investigators said.

The man then fled on foot from the Riverleigh Avenue home, heading south on County Road 104, according to police.

A K9 unit and Suffolk County police helicopter then searched the area for the suspect, who was described as a white male in his mid-30s, about six foot tall, and wearing jeans and blue and white jacket and sneakers at the time, according to police.

It was unclear why the report was not released until Monday. Additional information was not available.

The incident happened about 3:40 p.m.
