Elsie M. Brown

Elsie M. Brown of Riverhead died Jan. 25 at age 85.

Born Feb. 13, 1927, in Powhatan, Va., to Gussie Lynch and Mack Ford, she was educated through high school and was a homemaker for most of her adult life.

Predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in 2005, Ms. Brown is survived by her son, Joseph, of Riverhead; her daughter, Dawn Speed of Peekskill; her sisters, Virginia Faber and Ruth Miles, both of Riverhead; and two grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her brother, Mack Ford, and sister, Nancy Ward.

The family received visitors Jan. 28 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service was held Jan. 29 at First Baptist Church of Riverhead, the Rev. Charles Coverdale officiating. Cremation was private.
