Riverhead High graduate named Obama’s cabinet secretary

Danielle Gray was voted ‘Most Likely to Succeed’ by her Riverhead High School class of 1996.
And succeed might just have been an understatement.
Profiled by the News-Review in December 2008 after she had helped then-Senator Barack Obama get elected to the presidency, Ms. Gray, now 34, was recently named cabinet secretary to the Obama administration.
“She’s recently been promoted to Cabinet Secretary, where she’ll essentially weigh each cabinet secretary’s priorities with those of the president. As an economic expert, she’ll see all through the lens of how policy affects people’s pocketbooks, continuing to push a healthy economy through all her work,” MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski wrote in an article published Wednesday.
According Ms. Brzezinski, Ms. Gray also helped two women get confirmed by the Supreme Court during the president’s first term.

According to a White House press announcement on changes in what’s called the White House Counsel, Ms. Gray previously served in the administration as “Deputy Policy Director for Obama for America, focusing on domestic policy as well as law and judicial issues.”
That announcement was made last week.
