Riverhead highway dept. crews to clear main roads Sunday
Riverhead Highway Department crews are focusing on clearing main roads in Riverhead and housing developments that haven’t been plowed yet Sunday, town officials said.
Riverhead highway superintendent George “Gio” Woodson said his team of more than 30 workers will be pushing back the snow to clear more of the main roads throughout town.
“We’re making progress,” he said Sunday morning.
Crews will also plow housing developments that are still snowed in, but will not get to clear local side roads Sunday, Mr. Woodson said.
Residents are advised to stay home and not travel the roads except in cases of emergency, authorities said. The National Weather Service reported black ice along many roads on Long Island that were cleared Saturday.
Keeping indoors will also help highway department teams clear the roads faster, Mr. Woodson said.
“Stay off the roads, stay home, stay out of our way so we can do our jobs,” he said.
Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter was unable to speak with reporters Sunday morning.
