PHOTOS: Valentine’s dance showcases bond between fathers and daughters

Love was in the air Saturday evening at the town’s Senior Center in Aquebogue, where the third annual father-daughter dance was held.

More than 200 dads and their daughters attended the dance, which was postponed one week due to the blizzard.

The dining room was transformed by recreation department staff to look like a Valentine’s wonderland with red tablecloths, balloons and heart decorations on the walls.

The fathers and daughters dressed in their finest — as if they were dining at a four-star restaurant — the girls wearing flowing pink, red and purple gowns with corsages on their wrists or roses in their hands.

Luis Garcia of Riverhead had three dates for the dance: daughters Yamileth, 7, Lillian, 6, and Melissa, 5.

“Am I lucky or am I going to be in trouble?” he said with a laugh.

Deejay Regina Holmes played a mix of nostalgic oldies, slow dances and kids’ favorites like Justin Bieber and One Direction.

For the $15 price of the dance, fathers and daughters had a portrait taken by photographer Joe Doll as they dined on pigs in blankets, Swedish meatballs, cupcakes and chocolate fondue.

The girls also made special Valentine’s Day cards for their fathers.

Mom’s shouldn’t feel left out. They just have to wait until Mother’s Day for the recreation department’s mother-son dance.
