Abelardo ‘Herm’ Febles

Abelardo “Herm” Febles died Feb. 16 at his home in Riverhead. He was 88 years old.

Born Oct. 31, 1924, in New York City to Carlos and Consuelo (Briceno) Febles, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a technical sergeant during World War II, from 1943 to 1945. A carpenter, he owned and operated C and F Store Fixtures in Brooklyn.

Mr. Febles was predeceased by his wife, Susan (née Matava), in 2009; his daughter Ann Marie Chapman in 2006; two grandsons, in 2005 and 2012; and his son, Ronald. He is survived by his daughters Linda Zaneski of Wading River, Diane, of Georgia, and Maryann Riebe of Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Feb. 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 9 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead, Fr. Larry Duncklee officiating. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
