Man injured in truck rollover crash in Calverton
A 21-year-old man hurt his arm after losing control of his pickup truck and then flipping and crashing into a utility pole Tuesday afternoon in Calverton, Riverhead Town police said.
The driver was heading north on Wading River Manor Road near the Enterprise Park at Calverton about 1 p.m. when he lost control trying to navigate a curve, police said.
The truck flipped off the roadway and collided with a utility pole on the road’s west side, snapping the pole in half, police said.
Manorville firefighters rushed to the scene and cut the man out of the truck. A Suffolk County helicopter was originally called to transport the man, but Riverhead ambulance volunteers were able to take the man to Peconic Bay Medical Center.
The man suffered a “minor arm injury” in the crash, police at the scene said.
Wading River Manor Road was closed in both directions from Route 25 to Grumman Boulevard while Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Service teams worked to right the truck and remove wreckage from the roadway.
