Riverhead man charged with damaging Southold police car

A 22-year-old Riverhead man who was getting a ride home from police after an altercation in Southold Wednesday afternoon found himself under arrest after he was spotted damaging a patrol car partition, Southold Town police said.

Police responded to 55750 Main Road, a mixed-use retail and apartment building, before 4 p.m. for a dispute, after which an officer was driving Luke Shea home just after 4 p.m. when Mr. Shea was observed “breaking off a three inch by four inch piece of plastic that made up part of the prisoner partition wall ” in the back of the squad car, a police report reads.

Mr. Shea was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and released on bail after a court appearance, officials said.
