Island Federal to open branch in Riverhead

Island Federal Credit Union plans to open its doors in Riverhead early this June.

“We are excited to be opening our sixth branch at the traffic circle, a location that is convenient to both local residents as well as visitors alike,” said Paul D. Young, the credit union’s Vice President and COO.

The credit union, which has five branches on Long Island, will be housed on Riverhead’s Route 58 in the building formerly occupied by Aid Auto Stores, a Shirley-based chain that went out of business last July. Neighboring storefronts include Advance Auto Parts, which opened April 9, and  the upcoming Aaron’s furniture rental store.

“When we began to consider expansion of Island’s branch footprint a few years ago, Riverhead was among the first places we considered,” Mr. Young said. “However, it took a few years to find the right location.”

Island Federal Credit Union’s main office is in Hauppauge. There are branches in Selden and Sayville in Suffolk County and in Bellmore and Hicksville in Nassau County. A North Massapequa location is in the works for this summer, according to the company’s website.

“While Island may seem new to Riverhead, we’re not,” Mr. Young said. “Many of our staff, including our Branch Manager, Rebecca Yousik-Collins, and the Director of Branch Administration, John McGregor, are lifelong residents of Riverhead, who are excited to introduce Riverhead area residents to the benefits of Island banking.”
