Aquebogue man with suspended license arrested for DWI
A 48-year-old Aquebogue man was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Main Road late Sunday, police said.
Robert Block was operating a GMC pickup truck eastbound in Aquebogue when he was pulled over near Broad Avenue about 11:50 p.m., town police said.
He was charged with DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, according to a report.
A former Riverhead firefighter, Mr. Block was arrested in 2008 for driving while intoxicated after he crashed a fire truck into a telephone pole with his 8-year-old son in the truck, according to a prior News-Review article.
In March, Mr. Block’s license was suspended after pleading guilty to driving while ability impaired, a reduced charge from the 2008 DWI charge, authorities have said.
He was being held Tuesday at Suffolk County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail, officials said.
Mr. Block was immediately dismissed from the fire department after the 2008 incident.
