Cops: Man beaten, robbed on doorstep in Flanders

A man was mugged outside his Flanders home last Sunday night, when three men snuck up behind him at his front door and beat him with a bat before stealing cash and a cell phone and fleeing on foot, Southampton Town police said.

The victim was walking back to his home from the Cabana Latina about 11:10 p.m. just before the robbery, police said.  As he entered his front porch on Groves Drive and started to open the front door, he was approached by three men from behind, according to the report.

One of the men then struck the victim in the back of the head with an aluminum baseball bat, police said. Another man went through his pants pocket and took $130 in cash and a Blackberry cell phone, according to a police report.

The three robbers then ran off west on Groves Drive.

The victim suffered injuries to the back of his head and face from falling after he was struck, police said.

Responding officers and a Riverhead police K9 unit searched the area but did not find the men, according to the report.
