Cops: Mattituck man arrested after hiding from officers in attic

A Mattituck man wanted on two active bench warrants fled into an attic to hide from police when Southold Town officers attempted to arrest him last week, according to a report.

Police found Christopher Giardiello, 24, at a home on Central Avenue in Greenport. Police said he ran and hid before officers quickly located him in the attic.

Mr. Giardiello was wanted on two active bench warrants in Riverhead and Southampton, according to a report. It was not clear specifically what the warrants were for. Mr. Giardiello, who has had several run-ins with police in the past, was taken to police headquarters where he was turned over to Riverhead Police.

In 2009, Mr. Giardiello was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana, according to a previously published report. He was also arrested in 2011 on drug charges and driving with a suspended license after being stopped by Southold Police for a traffic violation, according to a previously published report.
