Alton Graham Miller

Alton Graham Miller of Riverhead died Aug. 1 at his home. He was 68 years old.

He was born April 30, 1945, in Baltimore, Md., to Naomi (Graham) and Jessie Miller. From the age of 3, he lived with his grandparents, Marie and Sam Graham, in Florence, S.C. At 19, he moved to the Bronx and lived with his mother and siblings while working for a vegetable packing company.

Mr. Miller moved to Southampton in 1972, where he met Dorothy Walker. They married in 1979 and later moved to Riverhead.

Family members said he was a hard worker and “gifted” landscaper. He loved music, singing and putting on shows for family and friends. They also said that although he was stern, with a bold voice, he was polite and respectful and a wonderful father and grandfather.

Predeceased by his wife in 2004, Mr. Miller is survived by eight children, Katwana Dorvail of Bellport, Lakeyisha, of Mastic, Keylonda and Keria, both of Richmond, Va., and Sonja, Alton Jr., Deyshawn and Yakeem, all of Riverhead; two sisters, Bernice and Sonja, and a brother, Michael, all of Harlem; and 14 grandchildren.

A service was held Aug. 8 at Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead, Pastor Roy Pennon Sr. officiating. Interment followed at Riverhead Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead.
