• A 21-year-old man nearly hit a pedestrian while driving drunk in Hampton Bays early Monday, police said.

Douglas Janlewicz of Aquebogue was speeding in 1994 Honda Accord and heading east on Dune Road about 4:20 a.m. when he cut out of his lane, “narrowly missing” a nearby pedestrian, according to a police report.

Mr. Janlewicz was pulled over near L Road, where police found he had slurred speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes and breath that smelled of alcohol, police said. He did poorly on a field sobriety test because he was unsteady on his feet, and failed a breath test at the scene, police said.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI and several traffic violations.
