Slashing suspect has two prior arrests
The Riverhead man arrested for slashing a teenager with a box cutter inside a Riverhead deli Saturday afternoon has two prior arrests — one for a home invasion on Doctors Path and the other for robbing and assaulting a taxi cab driver near Delores Avenue, according to prior news reports.
Police said Jvon Creighton, 18, fled on foot following this latest incident, in which he wounded a 16-year-old male by slashing his upper right arm with a slide-lock razor blade.
The 16-year-old victim, whom police identified only as a Calverton boy, was in a dispute with Mr. Creighton, police said. A physical confrontation ensued inside Milly Deli & Cafe and police received a report of a stabbing about 4:30 p.m.
Mr. Creighton was arrested about an hour later and charged with second-degree assault, police said. At his arraignment Saturday, Riverhead Town Justice Richard Ehlers ordered Mr. Creighton held on $10,000 bail. He is due back in court Monday with his legal aid present.
The victim in the slashing incident was transported by Riverhead Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center and was released after being treated, police said.
Mr. Creighton said in court Sunday that he moved back to Riverhead from Mastic Beach “a couple of weeks ago.” He has been working for two weeks at a Route 58 box store and is no longer on parole or probation for his prior arrests, he said.
