Arthur C. Flanigan

Riverhead resident Arthur C. Flanigan died Sept. 12 in Lincoln Park, N.J. He was 76 years old and had been in rehabilitation following a serious injury.

Born July 10, 1937, in Flushing to Archibald and Madelyne (Zilinski) Flanigan, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1961 and was later employed by Grumman in Calverton as an aeronautical engineer. In the late 1980s, he and his wife, Jean (née Edwards), had been involved in the Riverhead Faculty and Community Theatre group, an activity he continued into the 1990s after Jean’s death in 1988.

Family members said Mr. Flanigan was a fixture at some Riverhead area restaurants, including The Birchwood and Cliff’s Rendezvous, and could be found at Meetinghouse Creek Inn every Saturday night. He also enjoyed golfing, they said.

Mr. Flanigan is survived by his daughters, Alysandra, of New Jersey, and Kathrynne Yland of Northport; his brother, Daniel, of New York; and four grandchildren.

The family received visitors Sept. 15 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead, where a funeral service took place Sept. 16. Interment followed at Riverhead Cemetery.
