A Riverhead teen turned herself in to police last Friday after hitting a Southampton Town traffic control officer in front of Bridgehampton School and leaving the scene of the accident earlier in the week, authorities said.

Southampoton Town police said the woman had been involved in a “verbal dispute” at the site with a pedestrian about 2:45 p.m., when the traffic officer asked her to pull over. A police report stated that the woman attempted to drive around the officer instead, striking him in the head with a side view mirror while running over his foot and fleeing the scene. Shadaya Freeman, 18, later turned herself in to police, according to Sgt. Michael Burns.

She was charged with a misdemeanor, leaving the scene of an accident with a personal injury.

Sgt. Burns said the officer was treated for minor injuries and released.
