Edwina Golding Latson
Edwina Golding Latson of Southold died Oct. 27, 2013. She was 92 years old.
Born in Beechurst, N.Y., March 1, 1921, to Edwin and Eleanor Golding, she graduated from Flushing High School as valedictorian and in 1942 from Smith College, where she studied economics.
During World War II, she served from 1941 to 1946 as a lieutenant in the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service and then, for a brief time, she was a switchboard operations manager for AT&T.
Formerly of Garden City, Ms. Latson had lived on the North Fork for the past 66 years.
In the community, she had been an Opportunity Shop volunteer and a candy striper at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, and she had managed the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Southold. In 1996, she received the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council Teddy Roosevelt Award.
Predeceased by her husband, Almet Reed Latson III, Ms. Latson is survived by her sons, Stephen W. Latson of Southold and John G. Latson of Cary, N.C.; a sister, Barbara Inman; six grandchildren, Pamela Latson, Christopher Latson, Caroline Minnick, Matthew Larsen, Elizabeth Craven and Erin Larsen; and ten great-grandchildren, Carter Minnick, Andrew Larsen, Olivia Larsen, Jacob Larsen, Jackson Craven, Harrison Craven, Raymond Thilberg, Sarah Thilberg, Katherine Thilberg and James Thilberg.
Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6. at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Southold. The Rev. Dr. Peter J. Kelley will officiate. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were handled by DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.
